Nordic Gold, Demystify This Gorgeous Scandinavian Alloy That Is Precious in Many Ways

Nordic Gold dates to many centuries ago. Its use is common around the world. Nordic Gold is used in Euro coins circulated throughout the EU. the 1, 10, 25, and 50 cent coins are made from this marvelous metal.  The 5 and 10 Swedish kronor are also made from Nordic Gold. the Swedes have used it since 1911. Two zloty coins are used in commemoratives.

A copper alloy with its gold caste, Nordic Gold is a mixture of 89% copper, 5 % aluminum, 5% zinc, and 1% tin.

the present-day Nordic Gold was made first by a worker (Mariann Sundberg). While operating at a Finnish stainless-steel company, she came across the combination of copper, aluminum, zinc and tin.

Though referred to as Nordic Gold (it isn't), it has properties similar to brass. It is corrosion resistant, as if that is a surprise. After all, brass is made up of zinc and copper. Brass and Nordic Gold are also very strong. Its composition makes it safe to handle, since all of its elements are considered safe to be in contact with. It has no lead in it, and when weathering in nature it doesn't hurt humans or animals. Since coins are handled a lot, Scandinavian countries adopted it for coinage!

Folks who are dazzled by Nordic Gold frequently pose the question, "How pure is Nordic Gold?" The question is rather moot, since its components are relatively inexpensive. It has no gold content, except for the name.

Anyone who has taken an introductory microbiology course knows that some metals like brass exhibit the oligodynamic effect. Brass repulses bacteria and virus and is one reason for it being used for doorknobs and handles. Nordic gold presents with the same effect.

Of all the coins in circulations today, Nordic Gold is cleaner, more resilient and studier than any other. Just consider how dirty paper money is!

Contemplate the enterobacteria E Coli and Salmonella. Each of these will die almost immediately after coming in contact with the Scandinavian alloy, Nordic Gold. It runs havoc over the biology of these microbes.

"Antimycotic properties" is another substantial word to describe Nordic Gold's rejection of fungus. The prefix myco- comes from the Greek word mykēs, which means “mushroom” or “fungus.” It refers to anything shaped like a mushroom or related to fungi. Fungus has a hard time handling the substance. It limits the time it can grow on coins. This is good since a critical mass of fungus is required to cause disease. Ponder that paper/cloth notes are porous and harbor a number of unpleasant microbes. Paper is also relatively weak compared to coin alloys, and this is why the coins typically stay in circulation much longer.

And finally, Nordic Gold tarnishes only after a long time. It is also resistant to extreme temperatures, hot or cold, and therefore fights bending, deforming, or melting.

Some may say that Nordic Gold is as beautiful as gold, but all of the aforementioned characteristics make it superior to gold in many ways.
