I suppose you could call this a plan. Anyway, I am always interested in where gold has been found. And there is nothing better than to get some historical information about the location of gold placer. These tips on geography are in Arizona, since that is where I prospect. The digitizing at this site is great! It is a wonderful archive, and the materials are easy to read. I have to say that I believe folks can understand how to survive as long as the Internet stays alive! There is so much information out there available about how to cope with scarcity. For my money, this is a neat idea. Want some evening light while out prospecting for gold? Here is a good idea. According to Tightwad Tip #8, you can make a corn oil lamp with a couple of items common to the house and a bottle of cooking oil. One teaspoonful will yield up to 3 to 4 hours of light. April 18, 2013 I found a well-done video animation about the way benches are formed. Not only did I want to refer you to it if interested, but it also reminded me of something to caution. I have found from my own eagerness that looking up from a canyon to high benches is a way to get you "dreaming". When I say this, my experience has been that I look up, discover a bench area, and then think, "I bet I could get up there." And of course, since you think others think that that bench is so high everyone would avoid it (hence, once again, the tantalizing thought of newly discovered flakes and nuggets) you get even more eager. It does no good for me to dissuade you since I am advertising free plans for gold equipment and the readership depends on an avid, energetic, somewhat fearless group, but my conscience harkens to me to say a word. Most of you reading this are here because you are motivated to learn a lot about prospecting. You probably know how to get water out of your little glass or plastic vials filled with placer gold (OK, maybe not full!). the common way is to put your flake in a flat bottom pan or pot and put it on the stove. You steam the water away and collect the flake.  If you are like me, you head out for some recreational prospecting and spend a day or two digging and sifting and shaking and wind up with this much gold. Here is my way of drying out Arizona placer gold. I may not be the first person to develop this, but I started doing this alternative method and it works out well. I use plastic suction tweezers (shown in the next photo) to carefully suck out most of the water in the vial. At the miners' store I frequent they are sold for 50 cents per. If you have plenty of running water, you can process a lot of material with this liquifying sluice type creation.
