Many prospectors, especially the kind with those contraptions called metal detectors, utilize scoops to gather up their treasure. If you are on the beach, what is better than having a scoop with a handle to scoop up sand where your target is located? Many of these scoops are commercially made, and surely you can find a lot of different ones by Googling. When hard dirt detecting (especially in the desert), you can loosen the soil with a miner's pick or other instrument and then use the scoop. Many of you probably have made scoops out of milk cartons (the more frugal of you, that is, like me). They work well, but I have found a gal who has an interesting webpage offering a variety of cuts to other plastic kinds of bottles of the common variety that will make even more hardy scoops. Though her examples are not labeled, I can tell you that certain detergent bottles and drain cleaner bottles (just a couple examples) make a very stout scoop. It turns out that Asians are investing in gold vaults. Seems there are a lot of Asians who want their gold nearby. Whereas in the past, one vaulted in London or Switzerland, it appears that a number of places in the Asiatic theater are interested in developing vaults for investors. The sheer magnitude of this transformation is interesting. We know China is one of the top two to import yearly gold. Storing it at home in large vaults is a rather new development. If you live in the Pacific Northwest, or anywhere else that is home to mosquitoes, I have found a site that gives instructions on how to build your own mosquito trap. I can attest to its usefulness because I built one. It's easy and these instructions are good. You only need a 2 liter plastic soda bottle, yeast 1 gram, 1/4 cup of brown sugar, and water one cup. 5 steps as easy as pie. I don't want to yank folks from this site, so go here and see how easy it is to build. Remember, the fewer mosquitoes you have to deal with, the more comfortable you will be. You will also eliminate a bit more of the chance of illness. And, in addition, you'll have more time to find the color.! Although I pretty much prospect for gold in Arizona, my mind occasionally wonders to far off places. Someday I would love to go to Alaska in search of gold. Other times my mind drifts to places where I haven't really heard that much about gold. Wyoming is such a place. The early 1800's saw prospectors and trappers finding gold in Wyoming. In 1993, gold was discovered in the northern Drainage of the Medicine Bow Mountains . Had pioneers, miners, prospectors and any of the people traveling through there to the west stopped to pan a bit, they would probably have discovered gold. The Bighorn Mountains also produced gold.

Much of what this gentleman has to say is probably unknown to most of you, even grey-haired prospectors such as myself. Even if half of what this man says is true, we should all be extremely concerned. There is definitely a wave of action that hopes to quash any ability of folks like us to recreationally prospect, especially for gold. Since proof that recreational miners do any harm to the environment is not available, and studies have shown no impact on the environment in many cases, this should be the warning sign of a wave that soon will be unstoppable.
