The coins, contained in a ceramic pot 45cm in diameter, were/are dated from AD 253 to AD 305. The coins are made of debased silver or bronze. It is one of the largest hoards ever found in Britain. Lost Gold and Silver Between Escalante and Boulder, Colorado - An Early 18th Century Mexican Mystery of Buried Precious Religious Relics

Image
The Mexican War of Independence began on September 16, 1810, and it continued until September 27, 1821. In the beginning, a Spanish mission in Mexico became the target of native Mexican attacks. A secret which unfortunately raises its ugly head too often, the top priest turned out to be less godly than local folks thought. With little regard to the parishioners, he salivated for gold, silver, and wealth of all sorts. To top that, he was in possession of a mine in the north. The 'NORTH" in this case meant Utah. Mexican miners were savagely put to work in the mines digging for the precious metals. Conditions were deplorable. You take your pick of the conditions that were there. No safety resulting in accidents, cheated of their pay, and all of the products went into the priest's pocket. As soon as the revolution started, there was no indecision about whom to the native Mexicans wanted to be rid of first.  Unlike many cheats and scoundrels, the priest did not save nuggets. He...

Real Gold from Sweden: Hard Rock and Some Placer Locations

Image
https://pixabay.com/users/rezaaskarii-18404671/ Of course, Sweden is east of Norway. It is the largest country of Northern Europe, and its beautiful mountain and ocean scenery would lead one to believe it is rich in natural resources. One thinking that would not be wrong. It is one of the wealthiest mining countries of Europe, and the Swedes have been digging minerals out of the ground for 6000 years. Many of the buildings in Sweden have wall coatings in churches and castles due to copper. The Falun copper mine in Dalarna is rich with the pigment. The mine goes back to 1300. It has accounted for two-thirds of the entire continent's copper. That's a lot! Iron ore, accounting for a whopping 92% of total production, comes from Sweden.  The north boasts 16 mines. Vasterbotten was the site of the first gold discovery. Boliden Mineral AG owns 6 of Sweden's mines. The Boliden Mine, which is no longer operating, was once Europe's biggest and richest gold mine. The field they ...

Scandinavian Gold Mining - Norway First - Look for Sweden and Finland in Days to Come

Image
There is so much to love about Scandinavia. Enjoying cold weather sports, good fishing, and extremely well-educated people. What more could you ask for? Well, how about this. Dare I say, what most people don't realize is that these countries possess great mineral wealth.  What's Norway Got? If you look at almost any photograph of Norway, you see sheer rock cliffs and mountains to the sea. Eidsvold, a city in Akerhus county, was the location of the first gold mine established in 1758.  A copper mine not far away showed sulfide gold. Ole Viborg copper mine originally tipped miners off to the possibility of area gold. That gold was mixed in pyrite and quartz veins. Later, Bomlo, Telemark, and Bindal revealed their gold treasure. As is the case in many of the United States, the gold was a secondary gain after copper, lead and zinc were primarily mined for. However, in Finnmark, a far northern municipality, Acerhus is the home of Biddjovagge Gold and Copper Mine. In 1970, the mine...
