Ever Heard of an Arrastra?

Arrastras were brought from Spain to the new world. The Mexicans made some changes, but basically it was a device with stone wheels that turned inside a flat stone surface for grinding quartz. As you know, gold is found inside quartz veins and the arrastras were made to crush the quartz so the gold could be separated. They were usually powered by horses or burros. I have seen one model that men used to push. Wow!
