Golden Legends Tales of Buried Treasure

 Known as the Gold Country (or the Mother Lode Country), this region of northern California is the site of many a mountainous town where gold was found. On the Western slope of the Sierra Nevada, this is an area of gold mines and many mineral deposits. These deposits were the attraction for many immigrants to the United States in the 19th century.  These immigrants were referred to as 49ers (the gold rush starting in 1849). Some of the towns in this mountainous northern region of California were: Mariposa, Sutter Creek, Nevada City, Grass Valley, Placerville, Columbia, Jamestown, Jackson, Folsom, and Sonora. Since 1987, a team known as the Temple Twelve have scoured Finland searching for the Lemminkainen Hoard. It supposedly consists of gold, jewels and artifacts. They may be on the cusp of finding the largest treasure hoard in the world. It may be worth $20 billion dollars U.S. Reported by Jon Rogers on November 2, 2021, the hoard may be the most valuable stash ever found on planet Earth. The treasure hunting group spends summers searching for treasure. Their day consists of 6 hours of digging and exploring seven days per week. About 50,000 gemstones including rubies, sapphires, emeralds and diamonds are thought to be in the hoard. With increased activity in gold mining in China, Mongolia has gotten the eye of prospectors. Mongolian deposits are not as numerous as those in China, yet, nevertheless, gold mining companies have been recently very interested. Companies are still trying to find more gold. Gold mining efforts are currently being dwarfed by copper mining in Mongolia. More than 120,000 tons of copper are being mined in Mongolia every year. Since the 11th century, gold has been in Mongolia. At the turn of the 20th century, gold operations began. 1540 pounds of gold per year since 1995 seems to be a publicly revealed number that is not debated.  The Zaamar gold mine in the central part of Mongolia claims most of the country's output.  Sado Gold Mine or Sado Kinzan is Sado Island's most important historical site. Currently it is promoted as an UNESCO World Heritage site. Sado Gold Mine was Japan's largest gold mine, while it has been in operation since 1601. In 1601, gold was discovered. In addition, gold was produced until 1989. At that time, mining was ceased. The Sado Kinzan mine produced 78 tons of gold and 2300 tons of silver. To be clear, this represents 156,000 pounds of gold! Cramped conditions were the order of the day. Technology, to include the Archimedes' Screw, helped pump out water to above ground from deep mine tunnels. A Chinese bellows system was used to provide fresh air in the shafts while drainage channels took excess water away preventing accumulation.  February 21, 2022 This blast occurred in Burkina  Faso, a landlocked country in West Africa. It is bordered by Mali to the northwest,  by Niger to the northeast, Benin to the southeast, and Togo and Ghana to the south.  Ivory coast is to the Southwest.  A large explosion in the proximity of a gold mining site in southwestern Burkina Faso killed 59 and hurt in excess of 100 other souls. It is believed that the explosion was caused by chemicals for treating gold being stocked there.  The  gold  recovery  chemicals are  like lime, sodium carbonate, sodium hydroxide and sulfuric acid  are used  for adjusting slurry pH; sodium sulfide used  for activation; water glass and phosphate  are used  for dispersion; flocculation and starch  are used  for flocculation.
